M.REBECCA I was born and raised in Michigan, except for the year I spent in Arizona. After graduation from college; with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree I moved permanently to Arizona.
I am someone who loves creating and inventing. In a world where everything (Art) has been done, (as my professors would say) it's difficult to be unique. I challenge myself , to at least, produce what is in my minds eye. The mistakes and failures lead me to new discoveries about my self and my craft. Every new challenge becomes a new possibility and a new adventure. The journey is always worth traveling.
ABOUT THE ART
Wood Possibilities: I studied weaving, etching and ceramics in college. Without the equipment to create, I turned to woodworking. I bought an industrial scroll saw and I was hooked. Wood is a wonderful medium. I collected scrap-wood from various work-sites, I was amazed to find out how much wood is thrown away. I've always been inspire by nature, the patterns, shapes and colors are the perfect stimulus for my creativity. I've found many beautiful remants from nature, sticks, rocks dried flowers, and plants. I began creating wooden containers with an architectural feel to house these special items. All the pieces are made from scrap lumber, molding and the negative left over's from other projects. Reclaimed wood, stone and glass appears to be an endless resource.
Glass Possibilities: I began working with scrap glass from my nearest stained-glass store. I bought a box of glass shards and began making collaged glass mosaics. I used stamps, keys, buttons, broken dishes, stemware, etc. and then filled the rest of the space with stained glass. There is something interesting about fitting pieces togeather, like a puzzle. I like the way the glass looks in relation to each other, with all the different thickness, textures, and translucenties or opaqueness. I've moved from collage to more representational Art. I'm having fun learning about animals, fish, insects, flowers, vintage cars etc.. When all is said and done it comes done to the glass and the light and how it makes me the artist and you the viewer feel.
